The next mainline installment in the God of War series from Santa Monica Studio, God of War: Laufey, has been delayed by three months. The developer stated that they will use this additional time to apply “final polish” to the game, ensuring it reaches its full potential.
The release date for the next God of War title has been pushed to May 20, 2027. The game was originally scheduled for release on February 16.
“Since revealing the look of God of War: Laufey back in June, we have been so grateful for the excitement surrounding Faye’s journey through the Eternal Realm,” Santa Monica Studio wrote on social media. “We are committed to honoring the trust you have placed in our studio, and we are working hard to deliver an extraordinary gaming experience that rewards the passion and dedication of our fans.”
“With this in mind, we have decided to postpone the release date of God of War: Laufey to May 20, 2027. In the meantime, we will make the most of every moment to apply final polish and push the game to its full potential.”
“Our entire team appreciates your patience, and we look forward to sharing more updates with you as soon as possible!”
By pushing the release of Laufey to May, the title avoids the crowded February release window, which will see the arrival of major games such as Metro 2039, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, and Fable.
Laufey was unveiled in June during Sony’s State of Play showcase, accompanied by an extended gameplay trailer. A few weeks later, in July, the official release date was confirmed. This action-adventure game centers on Faye—Kratos’s wife from the Norse-inspired God of War series—and is set in a fantasy realm known as “Everywhen,” an afterlife for deities from all mythologies. The narrative follows Faye’s journey following her passing, as depicted in God of War (2018).
Laufey is a PS5 exclusive and is now available for pre-order on the PlayStation Store.
